The N-SAF units specified by this United Utilities project were designed as twin stream and required to be constructed out of stainless steel for an above ground location. The top level of the SAF units can be accessed via a common staircase to ensure ease of access for any maintenance and visual inspection. The air required for the process was also sized to scour the N-SAF resulting in the absence of any dedicated desludge requirements.

The N-SAF plant associated with this United Utilities project was designed based upon the following criteria:

  • Population Equivalent: 2,107
  • Peak flow at inlet (pumped): 1,163 m3/day

This plant was designed to achieve 2mg/litre Ammonia standard (95%ile).
